Exposed by Kazuma Obara

20 rolls of unused color film discovered in Pripyat in 2015, with a 1992 expiry date. That’s what ultimately led to this very special series ‘Exposed’ by the Japanese photographer Kazuma Obara. The images were taken in places which related to the Chernobyl accident and of a girl named Mariya who was born only 5 months after the nuclear disaster. She grew up suffering from chronic thyroiditis, one of the results of radiation poisoning.
